Joint Focus: Wrist and Hand Injuries

With 27 bones, 29 joints, 123 ligaments and 34 muscles, our hands are an incredible feat of biological engineering. As physiotherapists, our hands are one of the tools
of our trade. We have been taught how to take care of them and we’d like to teach you!

Hands are one of the most used parts of our body, so is it any wonder they sometimes become injured? Common injuries, including strains and sprains, can affect the joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons.

Common hand & wrist injuries

Injuries we often see at goPhysio in the hand & wrist include:

  • Rehabilitation after fractures
  • DeQuervains tenosynovitis
  • Repetitive strains or ‘Work Related Upper Limb Disorders’
  • Overuse injuries
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Stress fractures
  • Wrist strains

Such injuries can often be common in musicians, office based workers and those people who play sports such as golf, tennis, badminton or other racquet sports. They are becoming even more commonplace with the evolution of technology and the use of tablets and smartphones.

With an accurate diagnosis, physiotherapy treatment for hand and wrist injuries can be very effective.

If you’re suffering with hand or wrist pain and it’s stopping you doing what you love or being as active as you need to be, our team meet the team can help you. We offer a range of services from our clinic gophysiotherapy in Chandlers Ford, which can help identify & resolve your shoulder or arm problems and also address the prevention of such injuries.

I had a really good visit to GoPhysio. I have had sciatica for two months and it wasn't showing any signs of improvement. Sophie gave me a thorough assessment and then provided acupuncture and ultra sound. After one visit my sciatica has almost gone. I am really pleased.

I have been attending goPhysio for about two years. As a company they are very professional and provide a very good level of service to include efficiency and courtesy and are always consistent in their approach. This very much includes the admin /reception team whom are the first people you make contact with. My Physio has excellent knowledge and has assisted me with sound advice and ongoing exercise regimes which are achievable and realistic. This has supported me well in between appointments. Although always busy I am normally able to see Roz at a mutually convenient time. Thank you to all the team
