Whiplash & Neck PainPilates

80% of people will suffer with neck or back pain at some point in their lives. Neck pain commonly results from trauma, such as a whiplash injury from a car accident or from developing a poor posture.

Whiplash Injuries

Whiplash affects approximately ½ million people in Britain every year. A whiplash often leads to overstretching of the spine as the head is thrown forwards & backwards (and sometimes sidewards) from the impact of the accident. The joints in your neck can become inflammed and stiff and it is common to suffer with muscle spasm.

Although scary, whiplash is very rarely serious and with the right treatment & advice has a very positive outcome.

Postural Neck Pain

Spending long periods of time in awkward or poor postures, combined with repetitive movements & a lack of breaks can also be a common cause of neck pain.

As a nation we spend hours every day sitting still & carrying out repetitive tasks, such as computer work. The human body isn't designed for this, we're supposed to be moving around, so all this time spent at a desk needs to be well managed to help prevent us getting pain.

goPhysio works closely with local businesses to help educate the workforce on preventing work related injuries such as neck pain. If you do suffer with neck pain at home or work, there are often very simple solutions that will help you.

Other neck injuries we commonly treat include arthritis (wear & tear), trapped nerves (which can lead to pain going down your arm), wry neck and headaches.

We can use a wide range of techniques to treat neck pain. These include manual techniques such as mobilisation, manipulation and soft tissue work, acupuncture, traction, advice & education and exercise programmes.
