Back pain clinic

Up to 80% of the population will suffer from back pain at some point during their lives. Symptoms can range from a stiff lower back first thing in the morning to crippling back pain which goes right down the back of your leg, also known as sciatica.

There are many different parts of the spine that can cause back pain. A ‘slipped disc’ can press on a nerve in your back leading to sciatica (pain down the back of your leg) or you can strain a muscle or tear a ligament, just like in any other joint in the body.

To keep your back healthy (and to help prevent back pain) it is important that you:

  • Watch your posture
  • Are aware of what you are doing and it’s affect on your back
  • Work your ‘core’ postural muscles to help support your spine
  • Keep fit & active
  • Maintain a healthy weight

If you do suffer from back pain, whether it is your first time or you get it regularly, goPhysio can help.

We see many people with back pain every day. It is reassuring that at goPhysio you will have a full assessment to find out what is causing your pain and then have a clear action plan to help you get rid of your pain and more importantly prevent it from coming back again.

We can use many different treatments to help your back pain. These include hands on therapy such as spinal manipulation, mobilisation techniques, myofascial release & massage. We also get great results with acupuncture, traction and electrotherapy such as ultrasound. An important part of our treatment will be education and advice, teaching you how to minimise the risks of back pain in your daily life. We will also work on strengthening your ‘core muscles’. It may be appropriate for you to attend one of our Rehabilitation Pilates Courses.

Theraflex

One of the treatments we use for back pain is Theraflex at our Chandlers Ford clinic.

Theraflex (or PAMM – Power Assisted Micro Manipulation) is a revolutionary approach which is used to successfully treat back and neck pain.

To work correctly the spine must be supple and elastic. Loss of supple elasticity is natural with time and age and is often greatly accelerated by injury.

Over twenty years of research has led to the design of the Theraflex System, which relieves mechanical back problems by increasing the suppleness and flexibility of the spine, reducing stresses within the joints which have initially created the problem.

The Theraflex System is used as a treatment aid by the Physios at goPhysio to help mobilise the spine. The treatment is non-invasive, gentle, passive and progressive. Vertebral Mobilisation is the movement of individual segments of the spine to increase the mobility of the spinal column. Theraflex takes inter-vertebral mobilisation to an entirely new level, allowing a degree of treatment that would not be possible with the human hand, but still retaining the feel and control of manual therapies. Its revolutionary design speeds up the recovery of most back injuries, call now to resolve your back condition.

For back pain sufferers the world over, there is good and bad news. The good news is that this treatment works, the bad news is the availability of the treatments. If you can find a machine, try it. It may just change your life.  - Ben Hunt, Back Pain Sufferer, Financial Times, 2005
